Godde's Community is like a professor who taught a difficult course. She told her students that their entire grade for the year would depend on their final exam. Some students worked diligently all year long, doing the reading and the extra-credit assignments. Some students crammed during the week or even the night before the final exam.

When the day of the final exam arrived, the professor passed the exams out and told the students to keep them face-down on their desks until everyone was ready to start. When the students turned their papers over, they found that every question had been filled in correctly in advance. Every student received a perfect score, on the final exam and for the year.

Some of the students grumbled against the professor. They said, "I studied hard all year long. I deserve a better grade than these lazy partyers." But she replied, "Why are you angry that I acted with grace and generosity? Don't I have the right to run my own classroom as I see fit? Do you want me to take away everyone's A but yours? — Or maybe I should take away your A, how about that?"
